San Marcos proclaims January 2025 Human Trafficking Prevention Month and marks city’s 60th birthday

The San Marcos City Council on Jan. 28 proclaimed January 2025 as Human Trafficking Prevention Month and recognized the city’s 60th anniversary (incorporated Jan. 28, 1963) with a short celebration and remarks.
Mayor Rebecca Jones introduced the proclamation for Human Trafficking Prevention Month and invited representatives from Lifeline Community Services and the California Faith Alliance to the dais. Brian Smith and Lisa (identified in the meeting as Lifeline Community Services’ CEO) spoke in support of the proclamation and urged the public to learn trafficking indicators and make reports when warranted. Smith noted recent law-enforcement actions and the role of community reporting; Lisa thanked the city and said the work requires community and service-provider collaboration.
The council also read a proclamation marking the city’s 60th anniversary, noting San Marcos’ incorporation on Jan. 28, 1963, a current population figure cited during the meeting (94,188), its higher-education institutions and park acreage. The mayor and council posed for photographs after the proclamations and accepted cakes and cookies donated for the observance.
Both proclamations were ceremonial recognitions presented during the opening portion of the meeting; no council action beyond adoption and short remarks was required.
