The San Marcos City Council opened its Jan. 14 meeting with a proclamation recognizing January as National Blood Donor Month and invited residents to a blood drive on Thursday, Jan. 30.
Mayor Rebecca Jones presented the proclamation and invited representatives of the San Diego Blood Bank and local volunteers to speak. A San Diego Blood Bank representative thanked the council and said the Jan. 30 drive will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a donation bus outside San Marcos City Hall and includes a QR code on flyers to schedule appointments.
The representative said collections have been slow following the holidays and that weather in other parts of the region had forced cancellation of some drives; he encouraged residents to donate and noted one donation can help up to three people. The proclamation recognized the San Diego Blood Bank and urged residents to consider donating on Jan. 30.
No formal council action was required for the ceremonial proclamation; the council recessed afterward to present the proclamation and invited attendees to comment and participate in the upcoming drive.
