Universidad Poplar updates council on demonstrations, Cesar Chavez Day and community services

Lopez said Universidad Poplar responded to two recent demonstrations—one on Feb. 3 and another the day before the meeting near Mission Hills High School—by providing human‑rights observation and community security to help keep young participants safe. She emphasized the organization’s role in community education, citizenship classes and daily support services.
“We continue to provide food at our community pantry and also thank the city for their ongoing contributions for that initiative,” Lopez said. She also noted that Cal State San Marcos is a partner for Cesar Chavez Day of service on April 11 and invited council members to participate. Lopez mentioned an upcoming celebration on Nov. 14 and highlighted a youth from her organization, JJ Sanchez, who was nominated for Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year.
