Board approves advance-in-person schedule for April 29 special general election over one objection

Director Fall presented the proposed schedule, which mirrors the primary schedule: four AIP sites, drop-box availability beginning April 19 with weekend hours April 19–20 (Saturday 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sunday noon–5 p.m.), and the final week of AIP Monday–Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the director said.
A board member, Ms. Everett, said she objected to the proposed site distribution as “heavy in the south” and “very light in the north,” arguing that the northern portion of District 2 lies up to eight miles from the proposed northern site. Director Fall said the elections office had checked county property options and that the office location is the northernmost county facility available for District 2; she said churches are typically not used because they cannot guarantee secure space and county policy prioritizes county and municipal facilities.
During discussion Mr. Bruning and other board members noted constraints and prior practice; one board member said the Cobb EMC location is not much farther north and would not yield a significant benefit. The board then moved to approve the proposed AIP schedule. The motion passed 3 in favor, 1 opposed; the minutes record the vote as 3–1.
The board directed staff to proceed with the schedule as approved. No amendments to the proposed schedule were recorded in open session.
