Resident asks South Gate council to back SB 48 and press LAUSD for immigrant‑student support unit

She also asked the council to request that the Los Angeles Unified School District create an immigrant‑student support unit with child welfare and attendance counselors for each region and to establish a liaison between the governor’s planned immigrant hub and local families. "So I’m asking you to pass a resolution to support Senate Bill 48," Ryan said; she added she would email a draft resolution to council staff.
Councilmembers and staff discussed outreach and resource coordination during the meeting; Council member Hurtado said he had asked the city manager to reach out to Congresswoman Nanette Barragan’s office for information resources, and other members referenced planned LAUSD and state outreach. The council did not take formal action on Ryan’s request at the Jan. 14 meeting.
