Planning commission approves Environmental Charter High School Gardena campus changes with memorial condition

The Gardena Planning Commission approved the Environmental Charter High School Gardena’s request to modify its conditional use permit, adopt a concurrent site-plan review and authorize an administrative parking adjustment, subject to conditions that include coordinating with former Calvary Baptist Church worshipers about memorializing elements of the existing sanctuary.

Community Development staff presented the proposal to replace an existing roughly 9,000-square-foot chapel building with a smaller, roughly 7,500-square-foot classroom and office building; upgrade landscaping and fencing; add a monument sign; improve parking and vehicle circulation; and reduce required off-street parking by 12% (from 104 spaces to 93) through Administrative Adjustment 1-24.
