Councilman Michael Norman addressed the council at the Feb. 6 meeting and announced his resignation, saying he and his wife will relocate to the Davenport, Iowa area for her career advancement.
Norman said the decision was difficult because of family ties and grandchildren in London, and that he wanted to vacate the seat promptly so the council could fill it and continue work without delay. “I resigned this evening, because I don't want this seat just to be occupied. I want someone who's gonna be in this seat to represent and make a difference,” Norman said.
Council members responded with thanks and best wishes. Several members praised Norman’s research, committee work and service to the Third Ward and the city. Norman said he hopes the council’s progress continues and thanked citizens for the opportunity to serve.
