Middleborough CPC extends cemetery maintenance grant through June 30, 2025

The Community Preservation Committee of the Town of Middleborough voted unanimously on Feb. 5 to extend the grant period for previously awarded cemetery maintenance funds so the Friends of Middleborough Cemeteries can complete D2 treatments and tree work.
The extension was requested by Chip Manjo, chairman of the Friends of Middleborough Cemeteries, who told the committee the group wants to use the remaining funds to apply D2—an anti-biological maintenance treatment—to headstones across roughly 16 town cemeteries and to address tree work before Patriot’s Day activities. "We are requesting an extension of the grants that you've already approved for us," Manjo said.
The committee discussed the remaining balances. Erin (staff member) told the applicants the combined balance across the two grants is $2,006.87; Manjo said the D2-and-tree line contains $1,939.68. Committee members clarified one earlier warrant article had funded stone repairs while another funded D2 and tree work. After brief discussion a motion to extend the grant period for the D2/tree funds through June 30, 2025 carried unanimously.
The extension allows the Friends to purchase D2 in advance of their Patriot’s Day outreach and to schedule volunteer work once officer turnover at the organization stabilizes. The committee did not record a roll-call vote; the action will be recorded in the committee minutes and the Friends can close out the line item after work is completed.
