Commission opens rock bids for county road work, refers packages to county engineer for review

Crawford County commissioners opened sealed bids for aggregate and road rock on Jan. 21 and directed staff to forward the submissions to the county’s rural engineer for technical review.
Staff read bids from Mulberry Limestone and Midwest Minerals that covered material types (AB3, roadstone, screened roadstone, lateral rock and chips) and named quarry locations (Pittsburgh Quarry/Site 2, Ingleville Quarry and Fort Scott among others). Unit prices varied by material and quadrant; examples in the bids included AB3 at $6.30–$7.25 per ton and chips at $14–$15.65 per ton depending on quarry and quadrant.
Commissioners recommended sending the complete bid packages to Triad’s rural engineer, Vincent Meyer, for evaluation and a recommendation on award and compliance with county specifications. No award was made at the meeting; staff said they had received certificates and required documentation attached to bids and would request the engineer’s recommendation before any contract action.
Commissioners also discussed whether to invite vendor representatives to a later meeting if additional clarification is needed.
