Franklin County commissioners swear in new member, select leadership and approve board appointments

Sabrina Meador was sworn in as Franklin County commissioner for the Third District during the commission's Jan. 13 reorganizational meeting, and the body selected its leadership and approved committee appointments and administrative housekeeping items.
The oath of office for Meador was administered early in the session by Judge David Brown. Meador repeated the oath: "I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of The United States and the Constitution of the State of Kansas and faithfully discharge the duties of Franklin County Commissioner Third District." The commission then moved to organizational business.
The commission nominated and approved Commissioner Harris as chair for the ensuing year and Commissioner Sabrina Meador as vice chair. The nominations were put to voice votes and recorded as affirmative by commissioners present.
The commission voted to continue last year's meeting schedule, keeping study sessions and regular meeting days on the same calendar that the board used in the prior year.
County staff member Janet read a slate of board and committee assignments that the commissioners reviewed and approved by motion. The appointments as read and approved included: - East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging (ECAN): Commissioner Wehmeyer - Franklin County Visitors Board: Commissioner Harris - Kansas Workforce Development Board: Commissioner Dickinson - Lake Region Solid Waste Authority: Commissioner Stoudemire - Neighborhood Revitalization: Commissioner Harris - Ransom Memorial Hospital Board: Commissioner Dickinson - Resource and Conservation Development (RC and D): Commissioner Stoudemire - Wellsville Chamber of Commerce: Commissioner Stoudemire - Franklin County Food Policy Council: Commissioner Meador - Prairie Paws Animal Shelter oversight/liaison: Commissioner Wehmeyer - Franklin County Development Board (FCDC): Commissioner Harris (chair role noted) Janet asked commissioners to correct any errors; commissioners indicated the list matched their preferences.
The commission also named the Herald as the official county newspaper for legal notices and county administration publications; commissioners said the Herald is the only regularly circulated paper in the county.
All organizational motions reported in the meeting were adopted by voice votes with commissioners recorded in favor. No motions failed during the reorganizational items recorded in the transcript.
The meeting then moved on from reorganization items to the remainder of the agenda.
