Commission approves Board of Bids and Contracts report; fire district accepts turnout-gear contract

The Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 12 voted to accept the Board of Bids and Contracts report from its Feb. 6 meeting, approving several purchasing recommendations and contract rates.
Purchasing Director Joe Thomas told commissioners the regular board recommended three items: the low bid for 10 Mark police-package SUVs for Fleet Management and the Sheriff's Office from CDJ Automotive LLC doing business as Main Street of Lansing for $463,950; a client drug-testing contract with Technical Resource Management LLC doing business as Coordant Health Solutions establishing three-year contract pricing with two one-year options; and a Waters Technologies maintenance and support plan for the Alliance Center (quote noted at $91,260).
The commission approved the Board of Bids and Contracts report by unanimous roll call.
Separately, while the commission paused, the governing body of Fire District No. 1 met and accepted a proposal for structural firefighting turnout and multipurpose rescue gear from Delta Fire and Safety, establishing contract pricing for two years with two one-year renewal options. That action also carried on a unanimous roll call.
Fleet staff answered commissioner questions about an alternative lower-priced vehicle bid for 2024-model units that were cheaper but lacked required specifications and color consistency. Bob Verzier of Fleet Management said the cheaper vehicles were not configured to required specs, which justified selecting the low responsive bidder for 2025 vehicles.
Actions were approved without recorded opposition.
