Finney County sets Jan. 27 public hearing for 2025 solid waste management plan update
Finney County commissioners on Jan. 13 set a public hearing for 8:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, to consider adopting the county’s five-year Solid Waste Management Plan update.

"Every county within the state of Kansas is required to establish a solid waste management committee, adopt a solid waste management plan, and perform a comprehensive update to the plan every 5 years," Mackenzie Phillips, Development Administrative Coordinator, told the commission. Phillips said the county’s 2025 update was prepared by Kirk and Michael, the consultant selected Oct. 7, 2024, and that the county’s solid waste committee reviewed the draft and recommended approval on Dec. 19, 2024.

Kansas law requires a published notice in the official newspaper at least 15 days and not more than 30 days before a public hearing on the plan; commissioners instructed staff to cause the required publication and set the hearing date and time. The board voted to set the hearing on a voice vote with no roll-call tally recorded.

Following the public hearing, commissioners will consider adopting a resolution to formally adopt the plan update.
