Calcasieu Parish honors Ward 1 firefighters for rescue during Oct. 23 mobile-home fire

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury presented certificates of recognition Jan. 30 to members of Ward 1 Fire Protection District No. 1 for their actions during a residential fire on Oct. 23, 2024.
Chief Trahan described the incident: upon arrival, Bishop units and deputies found visible smoke and flames. Lieutenant Edwin Patrick and firefighter operator Thomas Ledoux entered the residence while firefighter operator Brian Gary searched a heavily smoked bedroom, found a semi-conscious female occupant and removed her to the front door where she was turned over to sheriff's deputies and the Acadian ambulance crew.
Captain Brandon Landry assumed command and directed an offensive attack on a heavily involved rear porch that helped bring the fire under control. Chief Trahan said the teamwork and quick action of the crew resulted in the occupant’s rescue and that the resident recovered and returned to Moss Bluff a few days later.
Certificates of recognition were read and presented to firefighter operator Brian Gary, Lieutenant Edwin Patrick, firefighter operator Thomas Ledoux, Captain Brandon Landry and firefighter operator Juan Vaughn. A representative from Moss Bluff thanked the crews and urged community members to consider volunteering with the Ward 1 volunteer force.
Jurors and parish staff reiterated gratitude for first responders’ training and readiness; the presentation included encouragement to support equipment and volunteer recruitment for Ward 1 Fire Protection District No. 1.
