At its Jan. 30, 2025 meeting the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury took multiple routine and project-related actions. Below are the principal votes and approvals recorded at the session.
Liquor and beer permits: The Jury approved one new and nine renewal liquor/beer permit applications (staff recommendation). Motion by Abshire; second by Bowers; item carried.
Rezoning and land-use: - 131 South Goodman Road (Ward 3): Adopted an ordinance rezoning from mixed residential to light industrial to allow industrial development (motion by Smith; second by Lewis; item carried). - 1124 Dunferry Road (Ward 6): Motion to deny rezoning from agricultural to light industrial carried 14-0 (see separate article for full coverage).
Adjudicated properties and demolition: - The Jury approved re-advertisement ordinances for multiple adjudicated properties (ordinance numbers read into the record; specific ordinance numbers and parcels were listed on the agenda). - Adopted ordinance ordering demolition of a house and accessory building at 60456 San Diego Street, Lake Charles (ordinance number 74-64). - Authorized condemnation, demolition, and removal of a manufactured home at 418 Maud Road, Moss Bluff (motion to condemn; motion carried).

Contracts, planning and infrastructure: - Approved a professional engineering contract for the I-10 North Frontage Road Phase 2 planning study (motion carried). - Approved multiple servitude agreements and donation/temporary construction servitudes related to the East Calcasieu Parish Consolidated Water Works project and other drainage/roadway projects. - Adopted an ordinance approving purchase of property at 1222 Pine Hill Road, Lake Charles, using funding from the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
Right-of-way / telecom: - Approved a right-of-way use agreement with VEXUS Fiber LLC for fiber-optic installation in unincorporated parish areas (see separate article for full coverage).
Bids and property disposition: - Action on bids for herbicide and weed-control chemicals was approved for multiple vendors per staff recommendation. - On a bid for the sale and removal of a house at 3210 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles, bidders withdrew or were unresponsive; jurors authorized demolition when removal bids failed.
