Sedgwick County formally installed two new county commissioners and administered oaths to the county clerk and county treasurer at a swearing-in ceremony on a snowy Sunday in January.
The ceremony at the county auditorium welcomed Jeff Lubas as Sedgwick County Commissioner for District 2 and Stephanie Wise as Commissioner for District 3. Kelly Arnold was sworn in to continue as Sedgwick County clerk, and Brandy Bailey was sworn in for another term as county treasurer.
Why it matters: The sworn officials will represent Sedgwick County on local and intergovernmental matters across 20 cities in the county and will be responsible for county-level administration, finance and constituent services.
Jeff Lubas, after taking the oath for District 2, thanked public works for clearing roads before the event and acknowledged family and campaign volunteers. "I'll only be a phone call and email away," Lubas said, pledging accessibility to constituents. He cited local infrastructure projects and regional water planning, and said the completion of the Northwest Water Treatment Center will serve over 500,000 residents and was a key regional accomplishment he expects to build on.
Stephanie Wise, sworn in for District 3, thanked volunteers, predecessors and her family and said she would prioritize transparency and responsiveness across the county's many municipalities. "So thank you for this incredible opportunity, and let's get to work," Wise said after taking the oath.
Re-elected county clerk Kelly Arnold, sworn in by the presiding judge, recognized his office staff for their work providing the county's customer services. "I want to most importantly recognize my office staff for the great work that they do," Arnold said.
Brandy Bailey, sworn in as county treasurer, thanked voters for reelecting her and pledged to continue serving with integrity and dedication. "I am deeply honored and grateful to stand here today to be as your reelected county treasurer," Bailey said.
The event included brief remarks by Sedgwick County Communications staff and visiting elected officials from Wichita and nearby jurisdictions. A reception followed the ceremony outside the auditorium.
No legislative actions, votes or policy decisions were taken during the ceremony; the event consisted of oath administration and introductory remarks by the newly sworn officials.
