County accepts $10,000 litter-prevention grant for Lexington County solid waste program

Lee McIntyre, Solid Waste Manager for Lexington County, said the Palmetto litter-prevention grant will be used "to buy materials for litter collection and removal, pay for billboards to advertise litter free Lexington County, and it will also pay for our solid waste management code enforcement officer to attend the South Carolina Litter Control Association conference." McIntyre told the committee no local match is required and staff asked that the award be reported out to full council because of time constraints.
A committee member moved to approve the grant and a second was recorded; the committee voted in favor. Committee staff said the grant typically funds outreach and cleanup supplies and that the litter control conference is usually held in Myrtle Beach.
