Wayne County approves amendment to 2024 public health infrastructure grant

The Wayne County Commission voted to approve Amendment 3 to the Fiscal Year 2024 Local Health Department Comprehensive Grant Agreement with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to accept a $37,000 decertification related to the Public Health Infrastructure Grant.

The amendment, introduced during the commission’s regular meeting, does not remove the funds permanently, county public health staff said. Dr. Brianna Osorio, director of the public health division, told commissioners, "This was just a decertification of, an amendment at the end of the last fiscal year, of the $37,000. It will be back enrolled." She said the remainder of the grant will be disbursed over the next two years and described the award as a multi-year grant used to support infrastructure projects in the Health Administration Building.

The grant covers a multi-year period. Osorio said the grant is valid for four years and that the additional amount had been offered late in the fiscal year; because the department did not use it in the past fiscal year the funds were decertified but will roll forward and continue to be available for planned projects.

Commissioner Killeen moved to approve the amendment; Commissioner Anderson supported the motion. The commission called for the question and recorded unanimous assent. The motion passed and the amendment was approved.

The commission did not provide a detailed budget breakdown of how the $37,000 will be allocated within the Health Administration Building projects during the meeting; staff indicated work is already underway and that the funds will be used for infrastructure purposes.
