Wayne County commissioners approve vendor contracts, park millage grants in unanimous vote

Wayne County commissioners on a unanimous roll call approved seven consent items that included vendor contract amendments, a recreational-boat license at the Detroit River Wildlife Refuge and intergovernmental park improvement agreements.
The commission voted to approve items 1 through 7 as presented. The motion received unanimous support from present commissioners; the clerk called the roll and recorded five "yes" votes. The items were moved and seconded on the floor before the roll-call vote.
Among the approved items, commissioners granted a license and hold-harmless agreement with Luba Canyon Maritime LLC to operate private boat charters and public boat cruises for adults and children from the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge fishing pier in Trenton. Wayne County Parks planning chief Elizabeth Isler said the dock and fishing pier were constructed to accommodate larger vessels used for outdoor programming and that the vendor expects to expand programming over time.
Also approved were contract amendments to continue routine county purchases: Amendment 3 to a two-year cooperative agreement (with a one-year renewal option) with Kirk's Automotive to provide NAPA auto and truck parts, and Amendment 4 to a sole-source purchase order with Lawson Products to continue on-demand industrial supplies for facilities maintenance. A facilities staff member explained the county uses concentrated chemicals from Lawson Products for maintenance tasks and that Lawson has been the only vendor found locally with the required formulations; staff said an RFP may be needed in a future term.
The commission also approved two intergovernmental agreements funded by the commissioner's park millage: one with the City of Romulus for improvements at Elmer Johnson Park, Saint John's Lodge and Oakbrook Park; and one with the City of Flat Rock for improvements to Community Park.
There were no public comments; the committee adjourned after the vote.
