The Gratiot County Board approved classifying a temporary position in the prosecutor’s office as grade 4 with a full benefits package for the life of the project or until the end of the fiscal year, whichever comes first.
County staff said the prosecutor’s office is implementing a new case-management/document system identified in the meeting as “Cortana,” a digital filing and discovery platform intended to centralize case materials and improve access for defense counsel. The prosecutor’s office hired an employee with experience implementing the software; that person has been working roughly a week, county staff said.
Because the temporary hire will work full time (40 hours per week) for an expected nine-month implementation period, staff and several commissioners said it was appropriate to extend full benefits for the temporary appointment, retroactive to the hiring date. The prosecutor’s office expects, once the transition is complete, to eliminate an existing half-time vacancy that has been held in the office.
Steve (Commissioner) moved and George (Commissioner) supported a motion to approve the classification to grade 4 with full benefits for the term of the project. The board approved the motion by voice vote and the motion carried.
Ending: Staff said the temporary, full-time appointment is intended to end when the software implementation is complete and the office will return to prior staffing levels.
