Board approves medical examiner contract changes and amends MEI agreements to cover staff shortfall

Delta County commissioners approved changes to the medical examiner contract to provide data access instead of written reports and amended two Medical Examiner Investigator (MEI) contracts so other MEIs can cover the workload of a temporarily unavailable investigator without added county cost.
The Delta County Board of Commissioners approved revisions to the county’s medical examiner contract and amendments to Medical Examiner Investigator (MEI) agreements at its Feb. 4 meeting.
Staff said the medical examiner requested that, instead of producing a separate written report for each case under section 6A, the medical examiner would provide written and electronic case data that county staff could use to prepare reports if needed. The board accepted that amendment and approved the contract.
Separately, commissioners approved amendments to two MEI contracts after a report that one MEI was unable to perform duties. The remaining two MEIs agreed to temporarily take on the additional workload; staff said this arrangement will not increase county costs because MEI compensation is reimbursed for services performed. The board amended the two MEI contracts to reflect temporary coverage and the motion passed.
During discussion board members reiterated that the changes would not add expense to the county’s budget. The motions passed by voice vote.
The board also approved related administrative steps and instructed staff to ensure case data access and reporting procedures were in place for county records and any required reporting.
