Cass County creates five-member ad hoc administrator search committee

The Cass County Board of Commissioners voted to create an ad hoc committee to oversee the search for a county administrator. Commissioners approved a five-member panel to manage the search process, including initial screening and recommendations to the full board.

The motion, offered by the meeting chair, proposed a five-person panel: the chair as committee chair, the HR director, the interim administrator (Administrator Renfro), Judge (Carol) Bealer, and one elected official (Commissioner Roseanne Marchetti was named as a member). The chair said three members were insufficient, seven would be too many and nine would be inappropriate for this purpose. Commissioners discussed following the Open Meetings Act for the committee’s work and said the panel would likely whittle candidates down to a top three or top five for full-board consideration.

The motion to create the ad hoc committee and the proposed membership passed by voice vote. Commissioners said the committee’s role is to determine whether to hire a recruiter and to manage the search process, not to make the final hiring decision for the county administrator.
