The Cass County Board of Commissioners approved a slate of appointments to boards and commissions while voting to withhold the economic development committee seats for further committee review.
A motion to approve appointments moved forward with an amendment: commissioners voted to remove the economic development committee appointments from the package and allow that committee to review applications and recommend nominees. After the amendment passed, the board approved the remaining appointments by voice vote.
County staff explained that application packets are sent to the chairs of the respective committees when applications arrive and that chairs are asked for feedback; commissioners seeking a more formal committee vote said some committees lack quorum and therefore could not act before the full-board meeting. The amendment is intended to let the economic development committee select members aligned with its goals before the full board votes.
The board directed staff to proceed with notifications for the appointments that were approved and to return economic-development applications for committee consideration and recommendation.
