Faust Elementary fifth-graders present career-research projects to Bensalem school board

At the Bensalem Township School District regular action meeting, Faust Elementary students presented fifth-grade career-research projects that are stored in each pupil’s digital career portfolio used for the district’s career-and-college-readiness indicator.
The presentations, introduced by Faust computer teacher Luke Casio and acknowledged by Superintendent Dr. Lee, explained job duties, required schooling, typical skills and average salaries drawn from state career resources.
The career-portfolio assignment is part of the Pennsylvania Future Ready Index’s career-and-college-readiness indicator. Luke Casio told the board that every fifth grader across the district completes the assignment and that the artifacts remain in a digital portfolio that follows the students through their academic careers.
Student presenters included Louis Baldasseri, who researched real estate agents and told the board the average annual pay is $60,590 and that the occupation is categorized in a mid-level job zone requiring schooling plus on-the-job training. Avery Saunders presented on physical therapy, saying the average salary is $98,970 and classifying the role as job zone 5, which the students described as requiring a four‑year degree plus graduate school. Adriana Peralta Santa Maria (listed in the transcript with variant spellings) presented orthodontistry and noted a high average annual income and limited openings; she and other presenters described job-zone and education requirements. Sebastian Wagner presented on being a pilot and noted that the job is specialized and often requires military background or specific on-the-job training.
Students described the research sources used for their projects (students cited PAcareerzone or similar state career websites) and highlighted skills associated with each occupation, such as critical thinking, active listening, customer service and technical competencies. Casio said he brought four students to present and that all fifth graders complete a similar research project.
The presentations were part of the meeting’s public portion of instructional highlights and were followed by board acknowledgments and other district business.
