Board sets committee assignments, accepts NASB membership; first readings scheduled for three policies

The Beatrice Public Schools Board of Education approved annual committee appointments and authorized payment of the Nebraska Association of School Boards (NASB) membership invoice at its February meeting. The board also received first readings of three policies and will return them for further consideration.
Under Policy 8151, the board president presented committee appointments for 2025. Committees named include School, Community and Staff Relations (chaired by Eric Book with Charles Riedesel and Marissa) and the 2025 Americanism Committee (chaired by Brandon Petrovsky with Charles Riedesel and Eric Book). The board moved and passed to accept the committee assignments.
On a separate motion, the board approved the NASB membership invoice of $7,311. Jason noted that membership fees typically scale with district size and that NASB represents school boards statewide.
During the information portion, board members heard first readings of Policy 8151 (standing committees), Policy 12 10 (Title IX/discrimination procedures) and Policy 50 13 (preschool enrollment). Board discussion on the Title IX draft led the district attorney to recommend waiting for clearer guidance before making substantive changes, and the board agreed to “sit tight” until more information is available. The preschool enrollment policy reflects work on a preschool grant and the intended scope of services; administrators confirmed the grant has been submitted and the district will await results.
Both committee assignments and the NASB dues motion passed. The policies will move forward to subsequent readings and votes as the board receives additional information.
