Simi Valley council appoints four members to Council on Aging executive board

The Simi Valley City Council unanimously approved the appointment of four nominees to the Council on Aging (COA) Executive Board.
Assistant City Manager Luis Scribe told the council that recruitment for the four positions ran from Sept. 18 through Nov. 15, 2024; 24 applications were received, the COA membership held an election on Jan. 13, 2025, and recommended the four nominees: Gloria Bowman, Janice Del Santo, Madolika Gar and Betty King. Terms commence Feb. 1, 2025, and conclude Jan. 31, 2027.
A councilmember moved to accept the COA’s recommendations and Mayor Pro Tem Didi Kavanaugh appointed the four nominees; the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: The COA Executive Board runs COA meetings, advises the council on issues affecting seniors and conducts fundraising to support senior programs in the community. Councilmembers praised the selected nominees and thanked all applicants for volunteering.
Next steps: The appointees will serve two‑year terms beginning Feb. 1, 2025. No additional council action was requested at the meeting.
