District pauses proposed Title IX policy updates after federal court decision

PITTSBURGH — At the Jan. 22 agenda review meeting, staff explained why proposed Title IX policy updates were removed from the Board’s legislative agenda.
Board member Ms. Petroski asked for an explanation after the policies were pulled. Mr. Weiss, speaking for the district’s legal team, said a federal court decision in Tennessee “essentially invalidated the... amendments to the Title IX regulations.” He said the district’s proposed policies reflected those now‑invalidated revisions, and that staff recommended holding the policies until the legal landscape is clarified.
“We’ve also had conversations with a working group of school attorneys throughout The United States,” Weiss said, and staff will present revised policies after further legal review. Weiss added that, given a change in federal administration, “it’s highly unlikely there’ll be an appeal.”
The district did not adopt new Title IX policies at the agenda review; staff said revised policies will be returned for Board consideration once counsel identifies a clear path forward.
