School committee approves schematic design submission for South Kingstown school building project to RIDE

The South Kingstown School Committee voted to approve the necessity of submitting the stage‑3 schematic design documents for the district’s school‑building project to the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) so the project can proceed to design development.

Kate Turner of Left Field, the owner’s representative for the project, told the committee the submission includes schematic design drawings, cost estimates and supporting documentation. “We do need approval tonight to maintain the schedule we're on currently,” Turner said.

The superintendent and project team said RIDE will perform a design review and provide comments; the submission is a required step before the district can move formally into the design‑development phase. Committee members noted the town council had already reviewed and approved the package and asked the chair to be the signatory for the school committee’s formal approval.

A school committee member made a motion to approve the necessity of the stage‑3 schematic design submission; another member seconded the motion. The committee voted in favor and the motion passed on a voice vote.
