Warren County approves $3,028.88 to mail broadband survey to 1,595 unserved households

The Warren County Finance and Budget Committee approved a transfer of $3,028.88 from the contingent account to Planning & Community Development to fund postage and mailing costs for a survey to 1,595 underserved and unserved households.
"We have an account of all the people who are unserved by broadband in the county. GIS has that on a map," Planning Department staff said during the meeting, describing the contact list and how the planning office will use it to reach potential participants.
Supervisor Driscoll introduced the measure and Supervisor Mayday seconded it. Committee members asked whether municipalities and community organizations could assist with distribution in addition to the mailings; planning staff said those partners could be used to broaden outreach if available. The planning department said the county is funding the initial survey and will pursue other broadband funds if the survey identifies households interested in satellite-based internet service.
The motion passed by voice vote. The planning department will mail surveys to the identified households and return to the committee with the results and any recommendations for follow-up funding or programs.
No additional funding for service installation or subsidies was approved at this meeting; committee members discussed subsequent steps for identifying funding sources if households express interest.
