Elections commissioner Bendis announces retirement; deputy endorsed to succeed him

Commissioner Bendis told the Legislative Rules and Governmental Operations Committee on Jan. 30 that he will retire effective Feb. 20 and that the county Republican Committee has unanimously endorsed his deputy, Harry Hubbard, to replace him.
“I will be retiring February 20,” Commissioner Bendis said, thanking the committee and the Board of Supervisors for their assistance and saying he felt comfortable handing operations to Hubbard and promoting a staffer named Caroline as deputy.
Bendis said recent office upgrades and equipment purchases left the elections office in good condition for a transition. Committee members praised Bendis’s service; the chairman and other supervisors thanked him for his work and wished him well.
