Washington County planning agency clears Fort Edward restaurant conversion as local concern

The referral, submitted by an applicant identified as Bellis, covers a proposal to convert a former bank building into a restaurant that would include a small stage for events. The project site is within 500 feet of state-owned land adjacent to a recreational area (the yacht basin), which triggered the county’s review under its referral process.
“Allison, Washington County planning staff, said the project is ‘a business that fits into the downtown business district’ and noted applicants were not proposing exterior structural changes beyond cosmetic work,” the agency recorded during the discussion. No county staff recommended conditions that would block the village’s action.
Following the staff comments, a member moved that the referral be classified as a matter of local consent; the motion received a second and was approved by voice vote.
The agency’s action was limited to advisory comment under the county referral process; final approval and any required permits remain with the Village of Fort Edward.
