Board votes to waive public comment and enter closed session citing Maryland statute

Early in the Jan. 13 meeting the Harford County Board of Education's chair asked for a motion to waive public comment for an agenda item that the board described as narrow and preparatory to a closed session. A motion to waive public comment was moved by Melissa (board member) and seconded by Diane (board member). The board chair called for vocal assent; the motion passed and the board later voted to go into closed session to discuss “potential parameters … negotiating with bargaining units and discussions related thereto pursuant to section 3‑305(b)(1) of the General Provisions Article of Maryland Code,” as stated in the meeting remarks.
The motion to close the meeting was moved by Melissa and seconded by Diane; the chair called for vocal assent and the board went into a closed session as announced. The board’s procedural votes were made before roll call/attendance was completed and prior to the substantive agenda items discussed later in the work session.
