Commission defers action on negotiating for Global Vision property after concerns

Commissioners raised concerns about stormwater runoff, pending lawsuits reported by a commissioner, the property's distance from central Mount Juliet, and competing capital priorities including a police headquarters, fire department projects and an aquatic center.
Several commissioners said the city should inventory and prioritize existing parkland and undeveloped parcels before buying new land. One commissioner said the asking price was about $3,000,000 and noted known drainage lawsuits; the city manager noted citizen inquiries about park uses but said the board must decide if it wants to pursue acquisition. A motion to defer indefinitely carried by voice vote.
No negotiation authority was granted; the item was removed from active consideration and the city manager was not directed to make an offer at this meeting.
