The Gallatin City Council committee moved four agenda items to the full council Feb. 11: two ordinances appropriating insurance or surplus proceeds, a bond resolution for water-system improvements and a resolution authorizing a parks grant application.
Ordinance 02502-9: Appropriation of insurance recovery for mailbox The committee voted to send Ordinance 02502-9 forward. The ordinance appropriates insurance recovery in the amount stated in the agenda for replacement of a brick mailbox hit multiple times at public works. Vice Mayor Hayes moved the motion; Councilman Fennell seconded. The committee approved the measure unanimously.
Ordinance 02502-10: Safety footwear funding The committee forwarded Ordinance 02502-10, authorizing appropriation of funds for required safety footwear for employees. Finance Director Miss Nichols told the committee the safety committee made footwear mandatory to help cut workers’ compensation claims and recommended funding footwear purchases from surplus-property sale proceeds. She said the requested account would be seeded with $100,000 expected from surplus-property sales and that going forward the cost would be included in departmental budgets. Councilman Carter moved the ordinance; Councilman Jovance seconded. The committee approved the ordinance unanimously.
Resolution R2502-5: Water and sewer revenue bonds (See separate article for detailed discussion.) The committee voted unanimously to send forward a resolution authorizing issuance of up to $30,200,000 in water and sewer system revenue improvement bonds, series 2025, for extensions and improvements to the system (phase 1: new water treatment plant and raw water intake).
Resolution R2502-4: Lowe’s hometown grant application The committee approved a resolution authorizing the Parks and Recreation Department to apply for up to three Lowe’s Hometown Grant submissions (applications may request up to $300,000 each). Parks Director Mr. Brown said the department will submit three projects and hopes at least one will be selected. Councilman Chabot moved the resolution; Councilman Alexander seconded. The committee approved the application forwarding unanimously.
All four measures were moved forward to the full council for final consideration; committee votes were unanimous.
Ending: The committee’s unanimous votes mean each item will appear on a future council agenda for final action.
