The Hendersonville General Committee voted Feb. 11 to defer consideration of a proposed decorative street sign replacement grant program while staff develops a draft plan and gathers input from homeowners associations and other stakeholders.
Jason Gellow, administrative services director, told the committee staff member Sarah is developing a grant program for decorative signs and that the committee was being asked for permission to continue planning rather than to adopt a final program: “She is working on a grant program for signs. This is basically authorized her to do that. We come back with a plan at such time,” Gellow said.
Committee members raised questions about fiscal impact, eligibility and accessibility requirements. Staff said the fiscal impact and application process were not yet defined. The transcript records discussion about ensuring signs funded by the program would meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) size and legibility requirements tied to roadway speed and that decorative features could be permitted so long as required letter sizes were maintained.
