Commission approves concept plan for pump track at Veterans Park with TDEC grant match

The Hendersonville Planning Commission on Wednesday approved a concept plan allowing the Parks and Recreation Department to pursue a pump track and additional ADA parking at Veterans Park under the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s 2024 Recreational Trails Program.
Caitlin, a planning staff presenter, told the commission that Hendersonville Parks and Recreation applied for the TDEC grant and that the Rotary Club has committed funds to cover the roughly 20% local match the grant does not cover. The project will use existing park land; no land acquisition is planned. TDEC requires a concept plan review before applicants submit a full site plan.
Greg, a Parks and Recreation representative, concurred with the presentation and thanked staff. Commissioners voiced support for reintroducing an amenity that community members recalled from past decades.
Commissioner Hasty moved to approve the concept plan; Commissioner Altizer seconded. The roll-call vote was 8–0 in favor.
The Parks department will return with a detailed site plan and construction documents if the grant application advances.
