Apopka staff review five spring special-event applications for parks and amphitheater

City of Apopka staff on Feb. 12 reviewed five special-event applications for spring events at Kaitlyn Nelson Park, the Apopka Amphitheatre and other city facilities.
The Rotary Club of Apopka proposed a car show for Saturday, March 8, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Kaitlyn Nelson Park, with an expected 300 attendees, food trucks, a DJ area and 10-by-20 tents; organizers said there would be no alcohol and parking would be on Edwards Field.
The Bahia Shrine submitted an application for a 5K on Saturday, April 5, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Northwest (near the amphitheater). Organizers said they expect about 250 participants, plan 10-by-10 tents near the large pavilion, will route the race around the pond, and will use the complex parking. No alcohol was planned.
Simply Clean proposed an invitational car show at the Apopka Amphitheatre on Saturday, April 6, from noon to 4 p.m., estimating about 3,000 attendees. The application lists food trucks and vendors, no alcohol, and parking on Barbecue Row and the complex parking. Staff said the organizer would likely contract a parking vendor to direct vehicles to Barbecue Row.
The Apopka Women’s Club plans an Art and Foliage Festival Saturday–Sunday, April 26–27, at Kaitlyn Nelson Park, with variable hours over the two days and an estimated 5,000 attendees. The application lists private security, vendors and food concessions; tent sizes include 10-by-10, 10-by-20 and 20-by-40. Parking was listed as Edwards Field.
United Cares Inc. requested approval for a Mimosa Festival at the Apopka Amphitheatre on Saturday, April 26, from noon to 9 p.m., estimating about 3,000 attendees. The application lists vendors, food trucks and alcohol; parking would be on Barbecue Row and the complex parking, and the organizer said it would hire a parking company for Barbecue Row.
Community development, police, fire and building staff recorded no outstanding objections on the record for the events presented. For some events staff noted maps “may be slightly adjusted” before the actual event and organizers said they would secure private vendors for parking or security as described.
The presentations did not include final administrative approvals on the record during the meeting; staff indicated additional permit steps, map adjustments and vendor contracts would be finalized with organizers outside the DRC presentation.
