Monroe–Orleans BOCES highlights CTE participation, AI summit and agricultural open house to Gates Chili board

Representatives from Monroe–Orleans BOCES updated the Gates Chili Central School District Board of Education on career and technical education (CTE) participation, upcoming events and the district’s relationship with the regional BOCES.
BOCES presenters said Gates Chili students participate in a large share of BOCES programs: the handout noted local enrollment across 24 of the system’s 27 CTE programs in 2024. BOCES representatives invited ninth- and tenth-graders to a CTE showcase (CTE X) scheduled for Nov. 5 and said the regional office will host an AI summit in early November aimed at staff who are using artificial intelligence tools. Presenters emphasized privacy agreements as a key consideration when districts adopt AI tools.
BOCES also described a small agricultural program and invited component superintendents, board members and legislators to an open house at Springdale Farms on Oct. 2 to showcase the program and discuss funding needs. The BOCES speaker said the agriculture program grew from component-district interest and framed modern agriculture as technology-heavy work with multiple career pathways beyond traditional farming.
Board member Mister Daley asked for the percentage of Gates Chili students with individualized education programs (IEPs) who are enrolled in CTE; the BOCES representative said they would verify the figure and provide it to Daley. Xavier Williams, a student and BOCES board representative from Gates Chili, was noted by the presenter as an active CTE participant and as the district’s representative to the BOCES board.
