Cipriani Elementary showcases EduProtocols, student leadership and a student-taught coding club

Cipriani Elementary presented a school-spotlight to the Board of Trustees showing how the site is using EduProtocols instructional frames, PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) and student leadership programs to increase engagement.
Principal Lisa Nowakowski (presenting the spotlight) described a multi-year rollout of EduProtocols, teacher training opportunities and student-facing artifacts the staff brought to the meeting. She said the frames "build our students' confidence and independence as learners" and can be adapted from paper-based work for younger grades to Google Slides for older students.
Teachers and students demonstrated classroom applications. Fifth-grade teacher Pamela Miller described "math reps" nicknamed "hot pockets," a reusable activity the fifth-grade team is using across units. Student Jocelyn Castillo, a fifth grader, described student-led teams such as the Green Team, breakfast club and spirit team and said those groups "make Cipriani Elementary a better place."
The school also described a pilot, parent-led after-school AI and machine-learning class for fourth- and fifth-graders that started in January and runs once a week; participants trained object recognizers and voice classifiers in the first weeks of the program. Principal Nowakowski said she expects to expand the pilot and invited trustees to visit a session.
The school shared parent engagement events, the PTA-sponsored Marine Science Institute assembly, an anti-bullying BMX show and an upcoming visit from an EduProtocols math author who will model lessons on March 26.
Trustees asked about outcomes and data. Miller said teachers have noticed improved memory and engagement in students after repeated use of EduProtocols; Nowakowski said the school plans teacher- and student-surveys and level-of-implementation checks to measure impact.
Ending: Trustees praised student presenters and staff, accepted the spotlight and heard plans to expand family math nights and classroom visits by EduProtocols authors.
