Leader Heights construction progresses; permanent gas hookup delay tightens gym timeline, York Township plan approved

At Leader Heights the project was reported as 58% complete. Administration said Columbia Gas experienced a permitting delay that pushed the schedule for bringing permanent heat to the site; the permit issue was escalated through the superintendent’s contacts and resolved but reduced the contractor’s float. As a result, the gymnasium’s wood floor — which requires an acclimation period under permanent heat — will not be ready by the April move‑in date. Administration said the team is reworking the transition timeline and will provide a detailed schedule for staff and teacher moves in the next board meeting.

For the York Township elementary expansion, administrators reported that the York Township Board of Commissioners approved the land‑development plan unanimously (5–0). That action enables the district to finalize site documents and proceed toward bidding the project; administrators said they may accelerate a separate permit and pre‑purchase of a major electrical switch (switchgear) because of current national lead times of 70–75 weeks for the equipment. The board was advised it may receive a procurement request for switchgear within the next 30 days because on‑time delivery is critical to project sequencing.
