Board recognizes Career and Technical Education Month; VPI review finds compliance; culinary students praised

The board presented and accepted a certificate of recognition signed by Governor Glenn Youngkin and the Secretary of the Commonwealth recognizing February 2025 as Career and Technical Education Month in Virginia.
Superintendent’s staff reported that the Virginia Department of Education conducted an on-site review of the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) program in Pittsylvania County, including classroom visits, document reviews and staff interviews, and found the division’s VPI program in compliance with state requirements.
Administrators and board members also recognized work at the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Career Tech Center and praised culinary arts students preparing for state competition; the meeting noted students completed ServSafe training and participated in a multi-course meal demonstrating skills.
The board additionally recognized staff, clerk and student representatives in ceremonial remarks. Layla Barrett, a student at Chapman Middle School, was named a 2025 Virginia Kindness Ambassador by the Virginia Department of Education; her recognition was announced at the meeting.
