Great Valley student representative spotlights Unified Sports fundraiser, community events

The student representative at the Great Valley School District work session described recent student-led activities that organizers said brought the district community together.
The student representative said students who took part in the district’s Polar Plunge at Citizens Bank Park raised "over $2,500, for Unified Sports." She described the event as “heartwarming,” and said unified teams — including bocce and track — participated alongside their peers.
The representative also said the Students Demand Action club visited the middle school to run identity and leadership activities for younger students, extending efforts beyond the high school. She described the outreach as helping students "become leaders, not only within our school but within our community." The representative added that the Positively Picasso club is running a fundraiser during Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Education Week (Feb. 14–21) to support Alzheimer’s research.
Looking ahead, the student representative said student council is preparing the annual Mr. Great Valley event, tentatively scheduled for March 13. She said the event raises money for the Chrissy Character Award, presented to two seniors in honor of a former teacher and coach who, she said, embodied the district community.
Rachel Gallegos, who presided over the work session in the absence of Mr. Barrett, acknowledged the student representative’s report and returned the meeting to other agenda items.
The student representative apologized for arriving late to the meeting and showed photos of the events during her remarks.
