Boyertown Area School District staff described an award of 11 AEDs and cabinets through a program organized by a state senator's office, the Chester County Intermediate Unit and United Way partners.
Athletic trainer Mr. Palladino said the award covers 11 AEDs and cabinets; the vendor prices cited range from $2,000 to $2,600 per AED and cabinet depending on features. The Chester County Intermediate Unit will reimburse the district after installation and submission of invoices, Mr. Palladino said. The program also includes up to $2,000 to subsidize CPR certification renewals.
Staff will inventory existing units, replace any devices that now need full replacement and then add AEDs to buildings that lack them. Palladino noted some portable AEDs are already used by trainers and that the high school currently houses the nearest fixed unit to Bear Stadium; the district has not installed fixed outdoor cabinets because they require climate control and secure access.
Board members asked for a current inventory and for administration to bring the reimbursable purchase to the district's next legislative meeting. No formal vote on the grant purchase occurred at the informational session; staff said they will present the item for approval at the next legislative meeting.
