“It’s a privilege to welcome you and senior leadership team to Washington School,” Pribb said, noting she is in her 12th year as principal. She told the board that Washington’s PTA supports field trips to Cosley Zoo, Naper Settlement and Morton Arboretum and that the PTA gifted about $3,500 in books to the school’s learning resource center last year and this year purchased a portable Gaga ball pit for physical education.
Pribb described a range of clubs supported by district stipends introduced in 2021. She listed student council (which runs service projects and Veterans Day events), art club (split into two groups for the size of the program), running club (now called Kids in Motion, which trains fourth and fifth graders for a 5K event), drama club (productions led by staff and supported by Student Excellence Foundation grants), crochet club, Earth Club (partnering with DuPage Farm Bureau and receiving multiple Farm Bureau grants), and a Growth Mindset Game Club funded by a Student Excellence Foundation grant.
Pribb said she and staff had planned to bring 16 students to speak but canceled that in light of winter weather; instead the school will produce a video of students describing their club work. She thanked teachers, specialists, paraprofessionals and PTA volunteers for their role in sustaining the programs and noted that Washington earned the state of Illinois summative designation of “exemplary” for two consecutive years.
The consent agenda later included “Acceptance of gift from Washington Elementary School PTA,” which the board approved by roll call vote as part of a broader consent motion.
What’s next: The school will provide a student video to the board and community summarizing club activities; Washington’s leaders said they look forward to the board formally accepting the PTA gifts at the consent‑agenda vote.
