School Committee accepts MyCAP grant and adopts civil‑rights language for nutrition policy

Policy update (EFE): The committee adopted revised language for policy EFE, "School Nutrition Department Civil Rights," to add federally required nondiscrimination language and to instruct the food services department, in collaboration with the school nurse, building principals and student services, to provide reasonable modifications to accommodate children with disabilities on a case‑by‑case basis. The policy language also references the U.S. Department of Agriculture non‑discrimination requirements. The update followed a DESE food services audit and completed a third reading at the Feb. 13 meeting; the motion to approve the policy passed by voice vote.
Both actions were procedural and informational items recorded in the meeting’s consent and new‑business segments.
