Commissioners said they expect to bring a revised historic preservation plan to the commission in February for review and discussion, pending a few outstanding amendments coordinated with city departments. Staff suggested a two-week public comment period for the plan’s final draft; commissioners noted there is no legal requirement for public comment but favored releasing the draft to the public.
Commission staff reported efforts to arrange for a city council member to attend future commission meetings to facilitate coordination. Staff said they are discussing scheduling and will attempt to have a council member attend in February.
On enforcement and exterior changes, commissioners raised two items: a mural on the side of the building at the recently opened Old Central Tavern that includes a painted directional finger reading “parking,” and ongoing exterior work at a property on South Main (304) where brackets had been removed and soffits exposed. A commissioner asked staff to look into both matters. Staff said it had sent a letter to the owner of the South Main property after receiving an email, and reported no response yet; staff agreed to follow up on the mural and the South Main exterior work.
Commissioners also discussed preparing slides for an upcoming council working session and coordinating a joint meeting with the acting city manager and other departments to align goals for the commission in 2025.
