Students honored for anti‑substance‑use PSAs in partnership with CASA

Manhasset students won prizes for public-service announcements produced in partnership with CASA, a local prevention nonprofit, and district staff recognized the winners at the Feb. 13 board meeting.
Connie Bruno of CASA described the organization’s 24-year mission to reduce youth substance use and outlined the PSA competition’s goals: student-written and -produced videos addressing social media, gambling, underage alcohol use and mental‑health topics. Eight entries were judged on technical execution, creativity, factual accuracy and availability of follow‑up resources.
The board and administrators invited the first‑place team — Project Healthy Minds (Jackson Daley, Lauren Westfall and Grace Panopoulos) — and the second‑ and third‑place winners to the lectern. Board members and district leaders thanked CASA, participating teachers and the students for their work and said the pieces will remain available to the district.
The recognition was presented as a community‑engagement item; no board vote was required.
