District briefs community on Propel transmission route and school construction progress

The company estimated construction could begin in 2026 and take three to four years to complete. District officials said the project will not close Northern Boulevard but could affect traffic patterns near school entrances; Propel plans community informational sessions, the first scheduled for Feb. 25 at the Hicksville Community Center at 6 p.m., and an informational table at the Manhasset Public Library.
Back at the district, Dr. Posse reviewed ongoing and planned capital work. The high‑school auditorium framing and roof work are planned for upcoming school breaks; a life‑skills classroom is substantially complete though the district requested replacement of cabinetry and sink and expects a 12‑week turnaround for custom cabinetry if approved. The district has installed a guard booth; arms will be added over the summer after an audit from Homeland Security recommended booth arms and a turnaround design. A fire‑alarm replacement project is underway with completion expected by September. The administration said bids for several approved Shelter Rock and secondary‑school projects were on the evening’s agenda for award.
Dr. Posse said the district is awaiting State Education Department (SED) approvals on site work, auditorium and other masonry and theater projects; most project approvals are expected on time. The superintendent said the district will communicate Propel’s community‑meeting dates and direct mailings to parents and will coordinate construction staging around school events such as graduation and the SEA fair where possible.
No formal board action was taken on the Propel brief; several construction bid awards were listed on the consent agenda later in the meeting.
