Gordon Short was elected council president and James Carbone was elected council president pro tem at the Strongsville City Council meeting on Jan. 6, 2025.
The council opened nominations for council president during the regular meeting; a nomination for Short was made and no further nominations were offered. After a roll-call vote, council members approved Short as council president. The mayor then administered the oath of office.
The nominations process for president pro tem followed later in the meeting. Councilmember James Carbone was nominated and, after no other nominations were offered, was approved by roll call.
After the elections, President Short said he would keep standing committee appointments unchanged for the moment and asked members to email any suggestions or changes by Jan. 17 so adjustments could be made before the next council meeting on Jan. 20.
Mayor Perciak administered the pledge and the oath for the newly elected officers following the votes. Council documents and meeting minutes show the appointments and the request for emailed suggestions; no formal committee reassignments were made at the Jan. 6 meeting.
