Westerville City Council voted unanimously to award the 2025 tree-pruning contract, including the base bid and Alternate 2, to Davy Tree Expert Company. The contract continues the city’s five-year pruning cycle intended to reduce the risk of tree failures during storms and the consequential claims and service disruptions.
Public works staff said the recommended award funds the base work plus Alternate 2; Alternate 1 will be completed by city staff in conjunction with contractor work. Staff described the work area as the northern section of the city for the current cycle and said quantities vary year to year due to tree size and maturity. Davy Tree has performed prior pruning work for Westerville and staff recommended the company as the lowest and best bidder.
During discussion a councilmember asked whether each cycle contained roughly the same number of trees; staff said zones are organized by geography for logistical efficiency rather than identical tree counts. The council called the roll and the motion passed with all members voting yes.
The contract award was approved by roll call: Glasgow — yes; Grimes — yes; Washburn — yes; Vice Chair Reemschneider — yes; Dr. Coombs — yes; Mayor Wright — yes; Chairman Hayek — yes.
