Cedar Shoals, Clark Central fields get LED sports lights; Cedar Shoals Phase 3 continues under SPLOST

Facilities staff presented progress reports on SPLOST projects and showed new LED sports lighting installations at Clark Central and Cedar Shoals during the Feb. 13 meeting.
Facilities project manager Mark Bailey described the LED installations and said the new fixtures provide tight light cutoff to avoid neighborhood spillage while illuminating the fields. He noted the chosen fixtures avoid uplighting because of flight paths near the high-school sites. Bailey showed images of metal poles and fixtures installed at Cedar Shoals and said the LED lights reach full output instantly, eliminating warm-up delays associated with older systems.
SPLOST program manager Mr. Gilbreth gave a construction update on Cedar Shoals Phase 3, reporting progress on the Fine Arts building, sports fields, expanded parking and an outdoor eating area with delivered furniture outside the cafeteria. At Clark Middle, Gilbreth said the project is wrapping up and a new traffic pattern will start when students return on Feb. 20; he said the district will notify parents and staff about the change. He also reported that the Gaines Elementary renovation is in design with local building committee meetings underway and that a warehouse expansion will begin in coming weeks.
Board members who saw the LED lights in action complimented the upgrade; one member apologized to nearby residents for a morning video clip showing lights flashing during a test. The board received the SPLOST monthly report and asked staff to continue outreach about traffic and parking changes at Clark Middle.
What the board will see next: Mr. Gilbreth said the Clark Middle traffic-pattern update will be implemented Feb. 20 and the Cedar Shoals auto shop foundation work and other Phase 3 items will continue under SPLOST schedules.
